October 12 through November 10, 2007
The dynamic duo behind Main Event (Northwest New Works Festival), Off The Double (Henry Art Gallery), and True North (Open Circle Theatre) take on "the end of the world as we know it," in a new collaborative performance collage using found objects, dance, music, and food – lots and lots of delicious party food – to fiddle like Nero with the dynamic tension created when apocalyptic social collapse meets fin de siècle decadence.
Keep the Light On
(World Premiere)
See the show's web page.
February 8 through March 8, 2008
It's a post-apocalyptic world and people are scrounging for food, shelter and...theatrical lighting. Three new short plays focusing on themes of shadow, endurance, and secrets will be performed within the World at End framework and lit by actor-powered bicycle generators. The project is headed by Annex's own Green Theatre technical director, Max Reichlin (Small Town, Tuesday, The Secret Recordings of Lenin...) and directed by Ellie McKay (Grand Guignol, Duchess of Malfi, The Secret Recordings of Lenin...). Three local playwrights will provide the to-be-written text.
S2
(West Coast Premiere)
May 9 through June 7, 2008
Sardonic, action-packed satire S2 follows sexy teen hustler Slate, who
wants to sell a suitcase full of super-addictive sugar and finds himself
plunged into a head-spinning world of prostitution, murder, mind-control,
criminal and corporate syndicates, government conspiracy, guerilla
warfare, space-walks, and international subterfuge.
Fusing stylized language in the vein of A Clockwork Orange with the crazed retro-futurism of movies like Barbarella and Danger: Diabolik!, blurring the lines between spy thrillers and Noh drama, S2 eats up consumer culture, sneers at conventional morality, and gives a deep wet kiss with tongue to romantic love. interlace [falling star]
(World Premiere)
August 1 through August 30, 2008
In the same vein as the hallucinatory science fiction prose of Philip K. Dick, Scotto Moore (Principia Discordia, The Front Page) closes the season with a new full-length play that explores both the fundamental clash between science and metaphysics, as well as encompassing a personal journey of self-discovery that speaks to the divine potential in all of us.
When a young amnesiac is discovered in the lobby of the United Association of Interdimensionary Travelers - a building with an infinite number of floors, at the top of which resides the offices of the One, True, Unknown Supreme Being - her unexplained presence sets off a series of increasingly catastrophic events that not only compromise the security of the Association, but threaten to unravel the entire fabric of creation itself! Can a superhero with a divine pedigree, an android companion, and archangels and devils together combine forces to prevent the impending Apocalypse? All will be revealed in this epic saga of love, loss, and redemption! Annex Theatre is dedicated to creating bold new work in an environment of improbability, resourcefulness and risk. Annex Theatre's Artistic Director is Bret Fetzer. For press information, contact Chris Comte: chris.comte (at) annextheatre.org. << Return to home page |
