Annex People
Chris Comte (1988 - Present) , Facilities Manager
When Annex Founding member Dave Skubinna showed up at work one day in the Fall of 1987 with architectural drawings of "our new theatre in Seattle", little did Chris realize that event would be only the prelude to nearly 20 years of theatrical mayhem, starting with volunteering to run a couple of nights of box office for "Straightjacket", Annex's first production in their now-legendary 4th Avenue venue.

This makes him something of a wizzened elder amidst this group of youngsters, but so far they haven't kicked him out of the teepee and into the blizzard yet, something for which he is eternally greatful.

Since that first fateful day, he's done all manner of work with Annex: volunteer, actor, Company member, stage manager, box office and bar staff, patron-at-large, tech-monkey, board op, Communications Coordinator for the past four years, and most recently taken on the position of Facilities Manager for our newest space at 1100 E Pike St.
Ed Hawkins (1991 - Present) , Board Secretary and Historian
"Edly" hails from Albuquerque and came to Annex in 1991 as part of a Weekend Jam between Annex Improv and Kings' Elephant Theatre. He's never really left. He has appeared in several Annex productions, including The Fatty Arbuckle Spook House Revue, Radio Pirates, I See London, I See France, Pearl, and Verbatim. He has staged several classic 20th Century American comedies for Annex Theatre, including The Front Page, Stage Door, The Women (co-directed with Andrea Allen), and Mae West's Sex. He has directed several world premiere productions at Annex, The Northwest Film Forum and Re-bar, including Kaleidoscope Eyes and The Glory Booty Club by Chris Jeffries; Dirty Little Secrets by Jeffrey M. Jones; Fall Fashion Issues by Keri Healey; For Lorne by Ed Hawkins; Brent or Brenda? by Scot Augustson; Deflowered in the Attic with Bit Heavy Productions; and What've We Done To Baby Jane? with LisImo Productions. By day he is the Advertising and Promotions Manager for Seattle Opera.
Bruce Hall (1993 - Present) , Spin the Bottle Host
Since his first show, as the stage manager for Hunger, Bruce has stage managed, acted, directed, house managed, danced, been a paid employee, hosted late night (10 years!?!), and cleaned toilets at this venerable institution!
Bret Fetzer (1997 - Present) , Artistic Director
Plays produced by Annex: Passport, Red-Eye, The Changeling (co-written with Thomas Middleton), Mars is a Star who Defies Observation, Scream Queen, The Story of the Bull, Bob is Dead (co-written with Kevin Haggerty). Directed: Small Town by Kelleen Conway Blanchard, Pearl by Anne Washburn. Acted in: The Front Page, Stage Door, Orestes.

Though briefly part of Annex way back in 1988, Bret has been a consistent company member since 1997. He was Artistic Director 2001-2004, and now returns to that role with renewed vigor.

Bret also co-writes plays with Juliet Waller Pruzan under the moniker Poisonous Toy Theater, as well as original fairy tales and other stories. Two collections of his fairy tales, Petals & Thorns and Tooth & Tongue, are available from www.pistilbooks.com. He is a Principal Playwright with Seattle Dramatists and a board member of Rain City Projects.

Gillian Jorgensen (1997 - Present) , Artistic Director Emeritus
Gillian made her way to Annex Theatre via two key elements: winning tickets on the radio to The Fatty Arbuckle Spookhouse Revue and being inadvertantly coerced into becoming House Manager while at a party. She has applied these tactics--good theatre and persistent wooing--to her years as a Company Member and is pretty proud of it all.

Past projects at Annex include:
  • As a director: And Also Fierce, Grand Guignol and GHOSTY
  • As an actor: Annex Cooks, Hysteria, Identikit, Einstein's Dreams, Beatrice, The Velvet Rut, Tank Plays, An American Book of the Dead: The Game Show!, several years of Hothouse, and numerous editions of Spin the Bottle.
  • In varying technical roles: Bugaboo, Grace and Patience, Blue Nocturne, Stage Door, and The Front Page
She looks forward to many more!
Stephen McCandless (1997 - Present) , Managing Director
Stephen blames Chris Jeffries and the production "I See London, I See France" for well, everything that has followed.
Ben Laurance (1999 - Present) , Company Member
Ben got lost on his way to his first audition at Annex Theatre, and has been lost with them ever since.

Past Annex shows include For Lorne, ATF: A Burlesque, The Ebenezer Cycle, The Sizemore Interviews, Tank Plays and The Front Page.

Ben performs with Paul Gude every month at Annex's late night cabaret Spin the Bottle.
Jen Moon (2002 - Present) , Pep Squad
Although JenMoon has been acting since the dawn of time, she really enjoys being the actor liaison for Annex, planning opening and closing night parties and special occasions, and now taking on the new duties of cultivating the props and costumes now that we've moved into our new DIGS! Who knew we had matching Copacabana outfits replete with pleated bellbottoms just waiting to see the light of day?

In her spare time, you can find her at the bar, concocting yummy drinks usually with purple liqueurs and potent fruity aftertastes. Or vodka and lemon. Or, well, you get the idea.
Scotto Moore (2002 - Present) , Bar Czar
Scotto performed in the Annex productions Market Research Theatre, Red-Eye, and The Front Page, as well as numerous editions of Spin the Bottle as a singer and actor. He adapted and directed the late night Principia Discordia LIVE! for Annex and will be directing his new play interlace [falling star] to wrap up Annex's latest season. Elsewhere in Seattle, he appeared in Chris Jeffries' Kaleidoscope Eyes, Open Circle's Dark Ride, CHAC's Archangels Don't Play Pinball, and is the creator of CHERUB - The Vampire with Bunny Slippers for Caution Zero Networks.
Michael White (2002 - Present) , Company Member
Michael Hayes White loves any opportunity to write about himself in the third person.

"No I don't."

Oh c'mon, sure you do, you love telling people how you've been everything from a national fencing champion to a brief stint masquerading as a German performance art superstar before settling down into a role transferring your film-school education into some technical ass-kickery for folks at Annex Theatre and your pet projects like the Fog People.

"Well, yeah there's that. I...er 'he' also likes to backpack a lot and works on some cool video stuff for Caution Zero and Hands of Kali..."

See. You love talking about yourself.
Brynn Hambly (2003 - Present) , Production Manager
Brynn is pleased to be a part of the Annex Family.
Max Reichlin (2006 - Present) , Technical Director
As you can see from my picture, I think carefully and at length about any decision.

In the immortal words of Marcus Whitman, "My plans require time and distance."
David Baum (2007 - Present) , Marketing Director
David was a founding member of the Seattle Public Theater in 1987 and one of the original organizers of the Seattle Fringe Theater Festival in 1990.

A sometime actor, David's most notable role was as Ferapont (an elderly manservant) in Chekhov's Three Sisters off-off-Broadway in 1985.

At present, he is devoting himself to photography. Some examples of his work may be seen on his web site at www.davidbphoto.com.

If you are now, or have ever been, a member of the Annex Company, you too
can have your bio posted here. E-mail david.baum (at) annextheatre.org for details.
