DUMMIES

Preview: August 6th
Who is responsible for art? In FIGURE DRAWING FOR DUMMIES, when a previously unknown painter rises to overnight, viral fame, it seems like a dream come true. The only problem? The painting that everyone loves is a nude of her girlfriend, a younger woman who didn’t explicitly consent to being the subject. As the painter’s career skyrockets, the painted woman’s life is left to be defined by her naked form. Twenty years later, the painter is preparing to unveil a second painting of the same woman, asking the questions: who deserves the credit, and are we truly separate from those who care for us?
In 2026, Annex debuts the Work-In-Progress Showcase, a brand-new tradition that takes one selected staged reading from the previous season’s Work In Progress series and gives it the full mainstage treatment.
After the conclusion of Season 38’s Work In Progress shows, we’ll select and announce which play will step into the spotlight for the August 2026 Showcase slot.
From workshop to full production,
see bold new work come to life
Tickets Available June 8th.
